Commitment the Key that Unlocks the Door to Success

Ps 37:5 Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.

This is a statement of commitment, faithfulness, dedication. We must all last or preserve to the end. No room for quitters.

Commitment: the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity. A pledge or agreement to do something. tie, obligation, responsibility, loyalty, allegiance, faithfulness, attachment, constancy

If you’re not producing results, you’re not totally committed. You may be attached to something or someone physically but are you attached mentally and spiritually?

Why are you looking back?

Luke 9:62 ESV Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Why do you keep looking back? Why consider where you come from when you have the best now? Committed people don’t look back. They are moving forward.

How committed are you to:

  1. God/Jesus

  2. Your Family (spouse and children)

  3. Your assignment

  4. Your Church. John 6:60-68

  5. Your relationships

  6. Health

  7. Wealth

John 6:60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” 61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit[b] and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.” 66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. 67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

When you’re committed to your church family, family, business, or friends the storms, rain, offense, hurt, or hardships will not move you from your commitment.

People who quit quickly were NEVER committed. You don’t and can’t give up that quick if you’re committed. And the people who give up after a period of time gave up in their minds long before they quit. They just finally got the guts to actually quit.

If you’re committed to the true and living God, you’re not looking at other religions to see if they may be right or if it’s something you should join. If you’re committed to your spouse, you’re not looking for another person. If you’re committed to your kids you will raise them and discipline them so they can be the best future adults. If you’re committed to your true assignment you’re not coming up with 50 ideas, no you are focused and disciplined to do and follow through with what God told you to do. If you’re committed to your church, you’re not out visiting and looking for other possible churches to join because you've gotten offended. If you’re committed to your friendships, you will love them, forgive them, and be there for them.

  • 1 Samuel 18:1 As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. 2 And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father's house. 3 Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul. 4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt. 5 And David went out and was successful wherever Saul sent him,

Success requires commitment.

Commitment requires follow-through. Follow-through requires a made-up mind. A made-up mind requires the responsibility of believing the truth. Truth requires God's Word.

I've trained people for more than 25 years. What separates those who succeed from those who don't is their application of what they've learned. They show up to the training. They don't make excuses. They show up for themselves and others because they made a commitment. They work at what they are supposed to be doing every day. They take responsibility for their failures and they get better.

  • People who are committed don’t make excuses. Excuses are the key to failure. Excuses will have you living a life of regret and regression. You are designed to progress not regress but you must be committed to the cause.

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

  • The Apostle Paul committed to his assignment, to God, to his relationships, to the churches he planted and pastored. He would not have finished if he wasn’t committed. Uncommitted folks never finish. They quit when they feel like it or if things get tough. God is looking for a breed of champions who are committed and dedicated and refuse to quit when they know they have pledged to do something. Weak-minded people allow others to pull them away from their commitment. It’s easy to walk away. It takes strength to stick with it. Stop walking away, you’re stronger than that. And stop walking away mentally every week.

  • When you’re committed you’re not looking for other things to be a part of. You're focused on what you have agreed to accomplish.

  • Commitment always brings success or a reward.

  • No boss or leader wants to promote or reward an unfaithful, undedicated, unloyal, uncommitted person who always makes excuses on why they couldn’t do what they are responsible for doing.

Stay committed and you’ll be the success God wants you to be. Have you ever thought that it’s Satan trying to get you away from whom and where you’re supposed to be committed to? Don’t budge...stay put. Prove Satan to be the liar he is!
